Gluten free pie pastry recipe.
I didn’t start eating Pie’s until I was well into my 20s, It’s my Australian partner who got me started and I’ve never looked back. Pies are a hearty, fun meal and healthy if you make your own from scratch. When I make Pies or Sausage Rolls Its often a big batch and half go in the freezer.
Gluten Free pastry is expensive so making your own is good value; this recipe is not for a puff pastry. I’m not attempting that in my little home kitchen, this Gluten Free pastry is short and a little flaky which tastes really good as a pie.
I love using left over meats for pie fillings, roast beef or lamb and slow cooking with root Vegetables, red wine mustard seeds and bay leaves, or chicken with mushroom and creamy sauce, it doesn’t matter what filling I make, if it’s in a pie it gets eaten.
For the pastry you will need.
- 2 ½ Cups (400g) Gluten Free Pastry Flour
- 2 1/2 tablespoons (100g) Margarine
- 1 cup (250ml) Water
- Extra Flour for dusting
Method
Preheat your oven to 200°C (fan forced)
In a large bowl combine margarine, water and Pastry flour. Mix by hand to form elastic dough.
Dust your bench, roll out the dough and lay across flan or pie tin, then press to mould into shape.
For pies add desired fillings, top and bake for 19-24 minutes
For Tarts or Quiches blind bake for 12-14 minutes.

And this pastry blend is exceptionally good. Please continue to stock it – I also have been unable to find it in any stores anymore, IGA included.

I also agree that this pastry flour is incredibly good! It changed so many things for us. We are now able to make pie crusts that roll out without breaking and tastes excellent! But my family and I are so delighted that with this flour we can also now make pasta, whether it is fettuccine, or ravioli, lasagne sheets (so easy!) from scratch and it is so good after being deprived of good pasta for so long!

Best GF pastry ever. My only issue is that 400g boxes are too small. Is there any way of buying bigger amounts as I use so much of it and it’s quite expensive in such small boxes?
